Excessively loud snoring can be an indicator of the serious breathing complication known as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (commonly known as OSA). This is a life threatening condition that affects approximately 18 million adults in the United States alone. It is most common amongst unfit, middle aged and overweight men who often have a family history of the problem and who may also have an under active thyroid. With this syndrome, their airways usually become totally blocked, causing the respiratory muscles to actually stop moving.
